Release Notes is our monthly update that highlights the new features of Mosyle Manager as well as recent product improvements we’ve made to help you manage Apple devices in your schools and/or district. Here's what we launched in January!
Our customers asked for it, and our amazing development team delivered! Now, our Self-Service feature offers a search tool, allowing students and teachers to find apps and books even more easily.
Now, admins can view all the management profiles assigned per Location and per Grade Level within the Mosyle Manager MDM platform. To check it out, navigate to My School and select which one you would like to see.
Mosyle Manager now offers new options to revoke VPP licenses using our MDM solution software. Admins can revoke the licenses in three different ways:
The admin is already able to revoke all the VPP licenses of the Apple VPP account using the option “Revoke all VPP app assignments.” Now, you also can choose the option “revoke assignments from unknown devices and users.” By selecting this option, all device-based app licenses assigned to devices not enrolled in Mosyle Manager will be revoked. The user-based app licenses assigned to users (e-mails) not registered in Mosyle Manager will also be revoked.
If you want to revoke all the assigned VPP licenses of a particular app, you can select the app from the list in the Apple VPP area within Mosyle Manager and click “License details.” In this section, now you are able to select both options: “Revoke all VPP app assignments” and “Revoke assignments from unknown devices and users.”
You can also revoke the VPP license of each device enrolled in Mosyle Manager. In the Device Info area, select the device and navigate to the Apps or Books tab to view all the licenses assigned. Within this section, you are now able to choose the option “Revoke license.”
We also improved the filter so you can keep track of every single detail about all the VPP licenses assigned to devices and users in your school and/or district. Navigate to the Apple VPP area within Mosyle Manager and select the app you want. In the License details section, you can filter the licenses by serial number, user ID, or username.
Now, Mosyle Manager MDM provides information about the reasons why the data from Apple School Manager was unable to import to the MDM software solution. After pulling the data from ASM, navigate to “Data without Location.” In this area, you can check out why some class periods or users were unable to import.
For example, class periods without any student will not be imported to Mosyle Manager. The same happens with Grade Levels without Location. With this information, admins can identify the issues much faster.
Admins can now edit one more parameter synced with Mosyle Manager MDM software solution from Apple School Manager.
If there are users without a location (which means users who are not assigned to a class period as teacher or student in Apple School Manager), you can select the option “Import even without location.”
By configuring this parameter, you can select if those users will be imported to Mosyle Manager MDM as students, teachers, or staff users.
Please note: When the user is not assigned to a class in Apple School Manager, Mosyle Manager is unable to automatically import them.
The limbo status is one of the device enrollment types offered by Mosyle Manager MDM solution, and it helps admins when managing device-based settings since devices in limbo are not assigned to any specific user.
And now, admins can set the option “Limbo devices belong to all locations” using our MDM software solution, which will be very useful for schools that have specific hierarchies. When this option is checked, all the limbo devices can be viewed and managed by any Administrator user, including Location Administrators. To enable this option, navigate to the Preferences in the MDM Platforms area.
Please note: Enabling this option will remove any location assignment previously established for limbo devices.
The admin can update the location info by unchecking this option and using the Bulk by Import feature in the Bulk Operations area.
Mosyle Manager offers different tools to help IT administrators enroll devices in the MDM solution, such as the Spreadsheet feature.
Now, you are able to import data from shared tablet carts or shared Mac computer labs using XLSX files. We provide you with the XLSX template, then you just need to upload the file. Once the upload is complete, you will be able to confirm all information before continuing
We also improved some features to manage Shared Tablet Carts. It is now possible to filter the carts by location. Administrators are also able to select the carts from the list to export and delete carts in bulk.
Mosyle Manager also improved a new option for shared tablet carts. When creating any management profile in the Management tab, now you can choose the option “Do not apply to shared devices when user logs in.”
By checking this option, the management profile will only be applied to 1:1 devices. This means that in the case of a 1:1 student logging in to a shared device, the profile will not be applied to the device.
The App Center has been designed to help administrators keep track of every detail about applications in the school and/or district. And now, we’ve improved the filter tool, allowing admins to filter the apps displaying only those with profiles associated. The feature is available for iOS, macOS, and tvOS MDM platforms.
Now, you can install books to the school’s iOS devices using an external URL. The URL must provide direct access to the file without any user interaction. For this reason, you can’t use Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, or any similar application to host the installation file. The URL should be in the following format: http://yoursite.com/book.pdf.
Now you can schedule when the Home Layout should be applied to the iOS devices. Please note: The iPads must be connected to the Internet at the scheduled times in order to receive the command to install and/or remove the profile.
Admins are now able to create an Allowed Apps profile based on the apps selected in the Home Layout profile. You just need to select this option when creating the Home Layout. Please note: The Allowed Apps profile will be displayed in the Allowed/Blocked Apps area. To edit this profile, navigate to the Home Layout area.
Some apps are not compatible with iOS 11, like the apps in 32 bits. But Mosyle Manager MDM software solution alerts administrators if the application could not be installed in the iPads due to iOS 11 incompatibility. To check this info, select the app in the Install App area and navigate to Installation Status.
Now, you can choose to update only the apps installed through Mosyle Manager MDM on the iOS devices you selected in the Bulk Operations area.
You can add a URL to the Dock when creating this management profile. Just enter the desired URL and the name that will be shown in the Dock.
When creating a Custom Commands profile, now you can also select an icon and enter the category name that will be shown on the macOS device.
Admins can view the Google Chrome extensions installed on Mac computers. Check out this info by navigating to the Device Info area.
If Mosyle Manager MDM could not identify the application name, bundle, and version after the .PKG file validation, the admin can manually enter that information now.
