Create Managed Apple IDs

The Managed Apple ID is unique and separate from any other Apple ID that you’ve created for yourself or for your students. Unlike personal Apple IDs, the IT administrator manages the services that the Managed Apple ID can access, creating a completely educational environment. The Managed Apple IDs are very useful when distributing Books through the ASM's Apps and Books, as this type of content delivery is only user-based.

Managed Apple IDs are created after the accounts of your institution's users have been registered in Apple School Manager, using any method we already explained (such as SIS integration, SFTP import or uploading CSV files).

Why create Managed Apple IDs for your students?

Your school or district benefits from creating Managed Apple IDs for teachers and students so the IT administrator is able to manage the accounts and provide a secure and educational learning environment.

The Managed Apple IDs are also very useful when distributing Books through the Apps and Books area, as this type of content delivery is only user-based. Another benefit of creating this type of credential is that Apple provides 200GB of iCloud storage for free with Managed Apple ID. Learn more about Managed Apple IDs here.

Deploying the Apple Classroom and Schoolwork App will also require Managed Apple IDs. To login to Apple Shared iPad devices, it is required as well.

Follow the steps described in Apple's documentation to create the Managed Apple IDs in Apple School Manager:
